You will also find statistics for the sector, CILIP commissioned research including our Workforce Mapping research exercise and more general policy material such as consultation responses, and briefings across a range of fields in the library and information sector.
This research section is the first phase in a programme to develop an evidence base to support CILIP’s advocacy based activities. In the second phase (2018-20) we will create a sector-wide research / evidence based portal for the sector to support not only advocacy but also good practice and blue sky thinking.
Research portal survey
CILIP is committed to adopting an evidence based approach to policy and practice across the information sector*. As a result, we are now engaged in scoping out the requirements for the development of a sector-wide evidence-base/portal. We wish to consider the views of various stakeholders about their current evidence needs and what would be desirable in such a portal. Next year we aim to work with like-minded partners in the information sector to develop the portal.
As part of this activity we have commissioned researchers at Birmingham City University and Manchester Metropolitan University to conduct a survey of stakeholders. We are pleased to announce that this survey is now live:
We would be extremely grateful if you could take part in this short survey. It should take only 5-7 minutes to complete and your views would be most valuable. We do encourage you to respond. The closing date is 13th November 2017.

*For the purposes of this survey, the ‘information and knowledge sector’ includes libraries, archives, records, information management, knowledge management and data science
